Quit hanging on to the handrails . . . Let go. Surrender. Go for the ride of your life. Do it every day.

It has been long since I have posted any blogs and I apologize for that. I made it to the top 10 out of the 54 delegates from all across Canada. The winner is
Siera Bearchell from Saskatchewan, who I know will represent Canada very well at the Miss Teen World held in Houston, Texas.
I would like to take this opportunity to give my utmost appreciation and gratitude to all those who have supported me through this experience, to the people who voted for me, who joined my group , my friends and family...thank you. I would not have been able to have come this far without all of your love and support.
After the Miss Teen Canada pageant I unleashed myself into Summer Vacation Mode. Most of that time was used spending it with my family from the Philippines. I will elaborate furthur on my Miss Teen Canada experience in another entry but for now I am excited to share with you upcoming events. Firstly, I will be competing in another pageant, called "Canada's Prettiest Filipina." Instead of 13-19 year olds, I will be vying for the Miss Philippines Canada title with the 18-24 year old age range. The winner will be awarded a cash prize and a ticket to the Philiipines to compete in an international pageant of her choice. In the beginning, I felt weary about joining another pageant because I will be attending university in the fall. However, from consulting with my family and hearing their absolute faith in me, I couldn't refuse such an opportunity. The pageant is on September 11 (Talent Night) and 12 (Final Night). Wish me luck : )

Blog Assignment #2: Free the Children and Platform
Among the sea of powerful images, this photo in particular stood out the most. The reason being is the symboic pencil, the young boy holds in his hands. The pencil is the tool is the too for learnng, the development of the creativity of these young minds.
To eradicate poverty and hunger, children need an oppurtunity to have an education. Yet for our our world's poorest families, this is only a dream. I am blessed to have a comfortable lifestyle, while these children suffer through immense adversities. My dream is to give the gift of an education to every child in the world. With this investment, they will achieve their dreams, improve the health of their community, since that young person goes on to contribute as a productive member for years to come.
Blog Assignment #2
Hello everyone! I’m Somaria Balram and as you probably already know our second blog assignment for Miss Teen Canada-World is to team up with another contestant and post a blog in which we describe our life in our hometown. I was born and raised in the beautiful city of St. John’s, Newfoundland.

Although St. John’s only has a population of just over 180,000 people, it is filled with beautiful scenery and many fun attractions.
One of our famous historical sites Cape Spear is the oldest surviving lighthouse in Newfoundland and Labrador and is located at the most easterly point in North America. The Visitor Center is filled with historical facts of lighthouses and the tradition of lighthouse keeping. Cape Spear is surrounded with beautiful scenery including whales, seabirds and icebergs.
The Royal St. John’s Regatta is the oldest sporting event in North America. It is held the first Wednesday of every August at the beautiful Quidi Vidi Lake in St. John’s. With more then 250 booths and concessions along with many rowing races the Regatta attracts up to 40, 000 people every year. It is a fun filled event for people of all ages.
The Signal Hill Tattoo was where Marconi received the first trans-Atlantic wireless signal in 1901. Along with the beautiful view you can catch a 19th century re-enactment by the sea cadets. Once you pass the Signal Hill Tattoo you will have reached the famous Signal Hill. At the top you will find Cabot Tower which was built in 1897 to commemorate the 400th anniversary of John Cabot’s discovery of Newfoundland. Signal Hill National Historic Park is Canada’s second largest historical park with walking trails, an interpretation center, and spectacular views of the city and the harbour.

St. John’s is a beautiful city with a number of attractions for people of all ages. It has numerous historical sites, many shops and beautiful parks. Be sure to check out all that St. John’s has to offer!
Cruelty to Animals
Why it's an issue:
"Animals deserve the most basic human rights," says the People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).
"Like you, they are capable of suffering and have interests in leading their own lives; therefore, they are not ours to use -for food, clothing entertainment, experimentation, or any other reason." I own a cat, named Sid. As I have come to learn she has preferences. It sometimes amazes me at how human-like she is. For example she responds to "Kitty"for me and responds to "Sid" by my neighbour. As you can tell, my "kitty" has touched many other lives with her calm, gentle aura.
It upsets me to see other animals being mistreated. There are too many articles of bears shackled down, being used in combat with other bears. There are also issues of our highly-disturbed ecological balance and alarming specie extinction that happen all in the name of science, capitalism, and-the most inexcusable excuse of all fashion. Too bad, the polar bears, and seals in the Arctic have to pay for human's mistakes.
How you can help:
Let's stop the cruelty of any animals now. Take further action. There are many options out there. For example, instead of grabbing for the steak, try some organic options. It's not only more flavourful, it's heatlthier and eco-friendly, too. Organic fruits and veggies do not contain those pesticides, harmful to your health, which preserves many of it's nutrients. Another option is cleaning out your wardrobe and log on to peta.com's shopping guide to "compassionate clothing," which gives a list of fur-friendly brands and clothes to stay away from. Spread the word about your findings to assist in reducing the risks of cruelty to helpless creatures.
MTC-W Blog Assignment #1: Psyched!
The bell has rung, so get out there and be Psyched!
A boundless school fit snuggly on your television screen, a classroom turned into a funky niche, and YOU as the creator, investigator, and problem-solver.
Psyched! is an entertaining, interactive talk-variety show that promotes learning through various activities, discusses relevant topics , emphasizes the importance of living a healthy lifestyle, and will feature everyday kids with unique stories. It is a one hour program garnered towards giving the younger generation a voice in society and in helping them overcome all obstacles to become leaders in their lives and the global community. The host, Joanna Mandap, an eager youth herself, will bring her goofy humor, personal warmth, and insight for engaging with guests as she uses her unique approach touching every feature of the show.
Psyched! is structured into several stimulating segments all sharing a common theme for that particular day. The segments that contain sponsors are the main components and the others will be switched often.
Segments:
Let’s Talk! : A main part of the show that discusses current issues with several guests and experts. It will focus on health, personal and social issues identified by young people.
Arts and Crafts: As the famous saying goes, “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.” Children will use their imagination in creating original art using eco-friendly materials. This segment is inspired by Foxy recyclables jewellery and the guests will be given these intrinsic treasures.
On the Move! : Here is the adventurous part of the show that will promote a healthy active living lifestyle. Joanna and/or selected viewers will be participating in physical activities that range anywhere from sky-diving to fishing in the prairies to even hip-hop lessons on the show. (The audience will definitely be involved in the latter). All equipment will be aided with high performance Air Plus gear.
Peace-Avengers! : A youth who is making a difference in the world will have the opportunity tell his or her story on the show. A clip of their journey towards peace will be shown and will also be featured in the latest edition of FAZE magazine. This section aims to inspire young people to develop their leadership potential through volunteer opportunities.
Snack Time! : In addition to the physical component there will be a nutrition portion as well. Joanna in collaboration with chefs or children will create healthy recipes.
Literary Moment! : Don't judge a book by it's cover and that goes the same for the title of this segment. Not only will there be discussion on classic and recent novels but on poetry, comic books, and clever jokes as well.
S.0.S! : Our camera and crew will answer a child’s call for help at the comfort of his or her home. This sort of help is not limited. It can be anywhere from assistance with a science project, or help with presenting a speech at school. The possibilities as shown are endless.
And Action! : A part of the show that showcases young talent while they perform skits of several genres created by the them or the viewers. Such examples are comedy, drama, horror, action, sci-fi, etc. They will also have to improvise using a certain object nominated by the audience. In addition, there will be musical performances.
Why the show will be a success
Psyched! will be a popular hit among the younger generation. Unlike other television programs, Psyched! is created almost entirely by young people. They will actively be involved in catering the show to what they want to see. This will be done through mail, the web-site, and audience participation. Such efforts will include surveys, polls, letters, and e-mail; it is meant to reach out to a diverse audience. The show will consistently provide engaging, flexible and highly interactive learning through its various segments that will leave its viewers wanting to see more.
Corso Italia Festival
I had attended the 12th Annual Corso Italia Festival this past weekend. This year, I found there to be much more excitement because there were numerous live bands, Latin music, scrumtious treats, and family outdoor entertainment. I definitely had a blast.
Highschool: The Best Years of Our Lives
This past week, I had the opportunity of sharing my personal experience of what high school meant to me at my grad luncheon. At first, the task seemed mind-boggling because I wanted my speech to cover all the great memories yet not too long that I would have my audience zone out into space. With the guidance of one of my teachers and great friend, I was able to condense my thoughts into a short yet impactful reflection. When the day came to give my speech, I felt nervous, sad this will be the last time together before our graduation in the fall, and excited that I was finished. So I would like to share with you a few highlights from my reflection that I hope you will enjoy.
"So Here we are...It seems like not too long ago we were quite the unruly, loud, young freshmen and roughly 124,416,000s later we are still those boisterous students but more refined and ready to take on new challenges.
To many of us, highschool has meant home. A welcoming, friendly environment, a place that allowed us to realize humanity shares more common than difference. What I came to appreciate about this school is the foundation of our common faith and what continues to hold these walls up is prayer.
Highschool has meant education. It is where we started learning new ways of thinking, discovered our strengths, and challenged our weaknesses. It does not only define the pursuit of knowledge from our classrooms, as it alone is not enough to achieve wisdom but from a never ending cycle of blending knowledge, and life experiences; tools we all use to build our futures.
Highschool has meant teachers. Our teachers have become irreplaceable figures, and their influence will only continue to grow as we gradually realize that they’ve always had our best interests at heart. Thank you teachers for truly educating our mind, body and spirit, for all the guidance and inspiration you provide.
Highschool has meant friendships. It is where we searched and found ourselves with the help of our teachers and classmates all of whom we have developed genuine friendships. Although our friendships may be physically separated due to college or job choices, hopefully, we’ll be able to maintain our friendships. And even if our friendships drift apart, we will always have the memories we had made in high school – the sports we played, the games we watched, the tricks we pulled, and the trouble we should have gotten caught for…..
As many of us leave today and enter the unfamiliarity of university, college or the workforce, here is a quote from Pearl S. Buck that I hope will keep us inspired. “We have every reason to look forward into the future with hope and excitement. Fear nothing and no one. Work honestly. Be good, be happy. And remember that each of you is unique, your soul your own, irreplaceable, and individual in the miracle of your mortal frame.” After all, we are McLuhan Rebels.
Thank you."
The Fair and Unpretentious
I do beseech thee,
those lingering atrocities,
concaving on that docile shoulder.
By no means should we falter,
at this opaque sight.
For although she does not impress
with a facade,
she exudes photonic intensity in her reveries.
Plain is her title,
but simplicity is her lifestyle.

Intricate are its' processes
